Discussions focus on the economy during First Ministers’ Meeting  in Montréal

13 décembre 2018

Reducing barriers to interprovincial commerce, diversifying and strengthening trade, ensuring market access for natural resources and applying various approaches to pollution pricing were the main focus of discussions between the Premier of Québec and his counterparts on December 7.

Mr. Legault took advantage of the meeting to promote hydroelectricity from Québec, remind the federal government of the need to resolve issues relating to softwood lumber and tariffs on aluminum and steel, and ensure full compensation for supply management sectors. In a joint request with Ontario, he also asked the federal government to compensate the Government of Québec for the expenses incurred in dealing with irregular border crossings by migrants.
