Like all public bodies, the Secrétariat du Québec aux relations canadiennes (SQRC) is subject to the 
Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information. This Act recognizes the rights of citizens, in addition to the right to access documents and personal information concerning them, to request that such information be corrected if it is inaccurate, incomplete or equivocal, or if the collection, release or keeping of the information is not authorized by law.
In line with the Act, the Regulation respecting the distribution of information and the protection of personal information requires public bodies to make documents available on their website. Since April 1, 2015, these bodies must distribute the documents sent under a request for access within five business days of their transmission. These documents must be distributed together with the anonymized decision of the person in charge of access to documents. In the case of the SQRC, this information is available on the Ministère du Conseil exécutif's access to information website, as is other information of public interest, such as the SQRC's financial commitments and contracts over $25,000. The SQRC's website features several publications in line with its mission and mandate.
Requests for access to information, or to any other information under the Act, must be sufficiently detailed to enable the public body to find the requested documents. Requests for access may be made in writing or verbally. To preserve your right to appeal at the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, your request for access to documents must however be submitted in writing (by mail, fax or email) to a person in charge of access to documents and the protection of personal information. Requests for access to personal information must always be made in writing.
