Jean-Marc Fournier

Minister responsible for Canadian Relations and the Canadian Francophonie

Welcome to the Secrétariat du Québec aux relations canadiennes (SQRC) website.

Echoing the title of the Policy on Québec Affirmation and Canadian Relations unveiled on June 1, 2017, the name SQRC reflects a basic change in how Québec is contemplating its initiatives in Canada.

Québec possesses all of the characteristics of an inclusive nation that recognizes itself as such and wishes to participate fully in defining the Canada of tomorrow.

Through dialogue and reconciliation between Quebecers and other Canadians, Québec has committed itself to promoting multi-national federalism that acknowledges multiple, collective belonging.

This vision also paves the way for the renewal of our relations with the Aboriginal peoples and allows Canada to offer the world a respectful model of collaboration in which everyone has a place.

In addition to coordinating government action in the realm of Canadian relations and ensuring respect for Québec’s constitutional powers and distinctive nature, the SQRC is a driving force for dialogue aimed at bolstering existing solidarity with our federative partners and between Quebecers and other Canadians. Such ties are, in particular, economic, as the Canadian Free Trade Agreement and the extent of our trade with the Canadian provinces attest, cultural and social.

Everyone is invited to participate in the dialogue. While proudly asserting their distinct national character, Quebecers know that for the future, hope resides in the shared desire to better understand each other in order to enhance mutual awareness and recognition.

We are Quebecers and that is our way of being Canadians.
