The Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes (SAIC) defends Québec’s institutional and constitutional interests. From this perspective, its team actively monitors federal parliamentary activity, and then advises the Minister responsible for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs and notifies the relevant Québec ministries of motions, policies, bills, or statements that could have an impact on their mandates. SAIC’s team of constitutional lawyers also monitors jurisprudence and constitutional doctrine.
Current and former constitutional reform proposals have been followed and analyzed by the SAIC, which in a way acts as the Government of Québec’s memory on these issues.
